About

Bound by threads

This exhibition introduces the design history of fraternal regalia from its origins in the 17th century, examining the fabrics, construction, decoration and development of styles through time and across different countries.  It will explore the meanings bound into these pieces of clothing and the ways in which an object can generate memory and identity.  Weaving through the creation of the objects from materials, design and techniques, to colours and symbols, it examines where different elements came from and the people who produced and sold them.
