About

Join us at Midtown Makers Gift Shop, Ballymena for a fun and eco-friendly event – Learn to Crochet with Recycled T-Shirt Yarn!

Discover how to turn old t-shirts into beautiful creations while learning a new skill. Our experienced Crochet Tutor Amanda will guide you through the process step by step. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, this workshop is perfect for everyone. All tools and materials are provided as well as tea/coffee and a locally made sweet treat.

In 2024, the fashion industry in the UK and Ireland faced significant textile waste challenges. In the UK, approximately 35 items per person were disposed of in general waste annually, with almost half of all used textiles ending up in landfills. Globally, the fashion industry contributes significantly to textile waste, with about 92 million tonnes generated annually. In the UK alone, over 300,000 tonnes of clothing are discarded annually.

By recycling, re-using and reducing the amount of textiles we buy we can help to reduce the amount of fabric that ends up in landfill every day.

This workshop shows you how to be creative with old or unwanted textiles. T-shirt yarn is made from left over fabrics in the fashion industry and used to crochet useful and beautiful items such as baskets, rugs, bags, necklaces and many other household products. The only limit is your own imagination!
