From hedgerows to your plate: the secret world of Northern Ireland's wild plants

About

Our local hedgerows are filled with magic and wisdom from our often overlooked wild plants. They have fed us, cured us and frightened us for centuries, and they remember everything, even though we have forgotten almost everything about them.

On Saturday 15 August, from 10.30am to 12 noon, nutritional therapist Hélène Klingler will open the door to this hidden world at Larne Museum and Arts Centre. You will learn how to recognize the edible plants growing all around us, how to spot the cunning lookalikes hoping to fool you, how to cook these wild treasures at home, their amazing nutritional benefits, and the old tales and folklore woven around them. And because they are so nutritious these wild plants are great to know to help prevent common discomforts (digestive problems, allergies, mood disorders...)

At the end of the talk, you will get to sample a few homemade recipes made with these very wildflowers, going back home with a little taste of the land and a piece of lifetime knowledge to pass on!

This is a free event, however spaces are limited and must be booked in advance by contacting Larne Museum & Arts Centre on 028 28 262443 or by e-mailing marian.kelso@midandeastantrim.gov.uk.
