Origami House EHOD 2025

About

Origami House is a striking contemporary home, defined by crisp white lines, sweeping glass façades, and its unique setting beside a dam and tranquil waterway. Surrounded by landscaped gardens and located on the edge of the Glens of Antrim, the house offers a rare fusion of modern architecture and natural beauty shaped by water. Designed and built in 2008 by award-winning architect Jane Burnside, Origami House reflects a bold yet sensitive approach to country living.

As part of this year’s European Heritage Open Days (EHOD), Burnside and artist David Page will welcome guests into their home for a guided tour, offering a personal insight into the design and story behind the house. Burnside is also the author of Contemporary Design Secrets: The Art of Building a House in the Countryside, which explores the principles embodied in Origami House.

The property has attracted significant recognition, including being named a finalist in BBC House of the Year and featured on the popular TV series Extreme Homes USA. Its place in British architectural history was firmly established when critic Dominic Bradbury included it in his bestselling book The Iconic British House: Architectural Masterpieces Since 1900, highlighting it as one of fifty of the UK’s most important residential designs of the last century.

EHOD 2025 presents a rare opportunity to step inside this acclaimed home and experience first hand how architecture can respond to water, landscape, and light—with the creator, Jane Burnside, as your guide.

Due to art installations and water features, children under 12 years are not able to be accommodated on the tour.
