About
Part of the Ballymena 400 Celebrations
Join Welig Heritage Crafts for a full day workshop exploring one of Ulster's most distinctive traditional crafts—the Ulster Potato Basket. Once woven in their thousands around the southern shores of Lough Neagh, these baskets were an essential tool of agricultural and domestic life, valued for their strength, durability, and clever design.
During this immersive, hands on workshop, participants will learn to create a frame basket, a style constructed around a pre formed hoop. This method offers a beautifully structured introduction to basketry, making it an ideal experience for both beginners and those looking to deepen their craft skills. By the end of the day, you'll take home your own hand crafted potato basket, created using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
