Audrey Kyle Art provides art experience workshops from a converted byre on the family farm, situated on the cliff tops of the stunning peninsula of Islandmagee on the dramatic Causeway Coastal Route. 

A short way from the studio, the land falls away, exposing the Gobbins Cliffs and dropping 250 feet to the shore. There are breathtaking views across the water to the Maidens Lighthouses off the North Antrim coast, and on clear days out towards Portpatrick in Scotland, Ailsa Craig, and the Paps of Jura. It’s a unique, creatively inspiring location.

As well as being the family home, Gobbins Farm has a horse livery, a flock of ewes, and an assortment of cats and dogs. It’s a peaceful spot, surrounded by animals, and offers visitors a chance to escape and relax. 

Audrey Kyle’s studio was a coach house in a former life, then a byre – a barn for cows – before being transformed into a workshop and art gallery. She has impressively maintained the building’s old world charm while converting it into a well-lit, cosy space for painting activities.

Throughout Audrey’s life, art has played an important role with regards to relaxation, being mindful and expressing herself. Audrey Kyle Art workshops allow her to share that experience with anyone wishing to have some fun with watercolour paints in a unique and relaxing environment, even without any previous experience. Audrey’s style is inspired by nature and the seascapes of this quirky location, shaped by sea and stone along the world famous Causeway Coastal Route and clients go to escape and unwind.

A dander across the farmland to the little woods, taking in the different plants growing amongst the hedgerows, the views from the cliff and bird song all offer their own inspiration for her art work and when clients spend a day with her, they get to embrace the experience and everything this beautiful spot has to offer.

If weather conditions are unsuitable for a walk around the farm, clients gather around the wood burner and Audrey shares local folklore stories. When clients first arrive, they put on aprons and get comfortable on the old church pews in the workshop.

Audrey provides a sketch in her style and then goes through the process step by step, building up each stage of the watercolour art from the sky to the foreground. Groups are kept small to give individual attention as Audrey guides them through putting in shadows and detail, using their own choice of colours to reflect their personality and individual style. She then mounts the finished pieces for them to take home as a wonderful keepsake of a day well spent.

As well as Audrey Kyle’s art three hour experience workshops, she offers studio tours of the art gallery to see how watercolour makes its mark on the page and shares local folklore stories. Audrey’s art cards and prints are available to purchase at her gallery and in local gift shops.

She also undertakes private commissions on request for a personalised piece of art to commemorate special occasions.
