Andrew Jackson Cottage and US Rangers Museum, 2 Boneybefore, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, BT38 7EQ
Arthur Dobbs Exhibition

About

Discover the remarkable legacy of Arthur Dobbs through a new exhibition that traces his life and career. A land speculator in Colonial America, and a promoter of emigration, he was appointed Governor of North Carolina in 1753. Dobbs also had a strong interest in natural sciences and is credited with the discovery of the Venus Flytrap.

The exhibition at the Andrew Jackson Cottage will include archival material from the Dobbs collection held at the Public Records Office, as well as never before seen items from the Carrickfergus Museum collection.

An associated programme to accompany the exhibition includes:

• Free STEM workshops for KS2 pupils - Monday 8 – Wednesday 10 June (Carrickfergus Museum)
• Public session focussing on the science of the Venus Flytrap – Saturday 13 June (Andrew Jackson Cottage)
• Botanical Illustration Workshop with artist Hayley Wylie – Saturday 6th June (Carrickfergus Museum)
• Seminar event – 22nd August, Dobbs room, Carrickfergus Town Hall
