About

Fifty: A Return to Cloth is a solo exhibition by Causeway Coast and Glens textile artist Norma Beggs, currently showing at The Gallery Whitehead.

Marking a return to exhibiting after 14 years, the exhibition brings together a body of stitched textile work developed through a process of repetition, layering and careful colour selection. Working with fabric as her primary material, Norma builds each piece slowly, line by line, creating layered surfaces that hold colour, light and movement.

Inspired by the coastline, many of the works echo horizon lines and shifting atmospheric conditions, using subtle tonal changes to suggest depth and rhythm. The work sits firmly within a contemporary textile practice, while drawing on the tactile and meditative qualities of stitch.

A recent piece within the exhibition introduces light into the work, hinting at an ongoing exploration of how illumination and material can interact.

The exhibition opened earlier this month to a warm and engaged audience, with visitors responding to the calm, immersive quality of the work and its rich use of colour.

Fifty: A Return to Cloth invites visitors to slow down and spend time with the work, experiencing the subtle shifts in tone, texture and light that emerge through the stitched surface.

The exhibition is open throughout May during gallery opening hours and all are welcome. Open Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–5pm (closed Mondays), with a daily lunch closure from 1–2pm.
