About

Create with Rust-Dyed Fabrics

Come along to Midtown Makers and join a patchwork workshop that introduces you to the sustainable art of upcycling through eco-friendly techniques.

Time: 2 ½ hours

In this class, you will collage textiles onto vintage cloth, crafting a unique piece of art with endless possibilities for use. I will guide you through arranging your fabric scraps and securing them onto a base using a variety of hand-sewing techniques that are both practical and decorative.

What to Expect

– A showcase of my personal work samples for inspiration.

– Step-by-step instruction on basic hand-sewing stitches, including:

Needle-turn appliqué
Whip stitch
Blanket stitch
Running stitch
– A workshop bursting with creativity and inspiration, with all materials provided.

If you have any special textile clippings or small items, you'd like to incorporate into your piece perhaps something with sentimental value, such as a piece of clothing, a napkin, or even a part of a loved one's wedding dress or favourite shirt—bring them along to make your creation truly personal.

Why Attend?

– Learn about the art of upcycling and explore how to repurpose materials sustainably.

– Leave with a one-of-a-kind textile piece that you can cherish, whether as a piece of artwork or potentially transformed into a garment (I will be happy to help you with that too!).

This workshop focuses on expressive and creative stitching rather than technical embroidery. It is perfect for all skill levels, from absolute beginners to experienced creators. From 15 years old up.
