August in Mid & East Antrim is all about celebrating local creativity and craft. August Craft Month brings together makers, artists, and visitors for a variety of hands-on activities, markets, and exhibitions throughout the borough. Whether you’re interested in learning a new skill, watching crafts being made, or picking up something special from a local market, there’s plenty to explore.

From Carrickfergus to Glenarm, Islandmagee to Newtowncrommelin, you’ll find events where you can get involved or simply appreciate the work of talented local people. Creative Craft Sundays at the Andrew Jackson Cottage in Carrickfergus offer weekly workshops covering different crafts. For something practical, there’s a blacksmithing workshop with Swifts Forge at the Gobbins Visitor Centre, where you can try your hand at metalwork.

Art enthusiasts can visit the ‘Rapport’ exhibition at Larne Museum & Arts Centre, which runs all month and showcases work by regional artists. If you’re interested in history and arts, the Medieval Calligraphy Workshop "Celtic Scribe" at Carrickfergus Museum is a chance to learn new skills using traditional techniques and materials.

Markets are a big part of the month too. Glenarm Monthly Community Market is packed with artisan crafts, local food, live music, and a special “Made in Glenarm” feature. At Willow and Lore Heritage Farm in Newtowncrommelin, the Fire, Feast & Folklore Experience combines craft, local food, and stories on a working farm.

There are also artisan markets in Carrickfergus, self-guided arts trails in Islandmagee, and heritage talks at the Gobbins Visitor Centre. Across the borough, August Craft Month is about discovering local talent and getting involved, whether you join a workshop, enjoy a market, or head to an exhibition. The rest of this blog will give you all the details on what’s on, when, and where, so you can plan your August and make the most of the events in Mid & East Antrim.

This August, Andrew Jackson Cottage and US Rangers Museum is proud to celebrate Craft Month with a series of hands-on workshops and inspiring demonstrations showcasing the best of local talent and traditional skills.
