Historical Talk - The Donaldsons of Boneybefore: A Story Less Well Known...

Andrew Jackson Cottage and US Rangers Museum, 2 Boneybefore, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, BT38 7EQ

About

Long before the Andrew Jackson Cottage welcomed visitors from around the world, it was the homestead of the Donaldson family, who lived there from the 1760s until Tommy Donaldson—the last of his line—left the cottage. While the Jackson story is well celebrated, this talk shines a light on the other remarkable family who shaped this place.
Discover the story of:
• a Scots family settling on the shores of Belfast Lough
• farming, trade, and life in Carrickfergus across the centuries
• connections stretching all the way to Canada
• how the Donaldsons' barn became today's US Rangers Museum, and how their farmland once extended into what is now Belfast Lough
