About
The Not-So-Secret Book Festival returns to The Secret Bookshelf in Carrickfergus from 3rd–20th June, bringing a vibrant and welcoming celebration of books, creativity and community. Spanning nearly three weeks, the festival offers a varied line-up of events designed to appeal to readers of all ages and interests, from thought-provoking author interviews to relaxed family-friendly activities.
Visitors can look forward to a series of engaging “in conversation” evenings featuring well-known authors including Sam Blake, Hazel McBride, Cal Flyn and award-winning writer Jan Carson. Crime fiction fans will especially enjoy the “Old School Criminals” panel, which brings together some of the genre’s strongest voices for an entertaining discussion. These intimate events offer a chance to hear directly from writers about their work, inspirations and creative process.
There is plenty on offer for younger audiences too, with free events including kids’ story sessions, arts and crafts, and a joyful Elmer Day filled with stories, stickers and colourful creativity. Poetry lovers are also catered for with a special reading from the Femina Culpa collective.
With a mix of ticketed highlights and free community events, the festival makes it easy for everyone to get involved. The programme wraps up on 20th June with a relaxed closing gathering, complete with a celebratory glass of fizz, providing the perfect end to this friendly and engaging literary festival.
