Built in 1825, Barbican Gatelodge is a miniature medieval castle, positioned beyond an old stone bridge over the Glenarm River on the edge of Glenarm village. It's a perfect romantic hideaway in one of Ulster's oldest villages – the tower has a lovely rooftop terrace for al fresco dining, a cosy wood-burning stove, and a deep bath that's a pure luxury after a day touring the Antrim Coast and Glens. The kitchen is small but perfectly appointed for preparing simple meals and the welcoming fireside is a cosy spot to curl up with a good book. 

Glenarm itself is a small harbour village on the Antrim Coast Road, part of the Causeway Coastal Route, with Glenarm Castle and its walled garden right in the village – guests often take a stroll through the walled garden and stop for tea in the old mushroom house tearooms. Larne and Ballymena are both a short drive away for guests wanting to range further afield.

The gatelodge sleeps 2 in a double bedroom and is set up for adults only, making it one of our most romantic properties – ideal for a couple marking an anniversary, a honeymoon, or simply carving out quiet time together. Pets are not permitted.
