About

Midtown Makers: A Celebration of Craft, Creativity & Community

Step through the doors of Midtown Makers on Church Street, Ballymena, and you step into a world alive with imagination. Since its transformation in 2016, this remarkable gift shop has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s foremost homes for handmade art, craft, and design. Every corner tells a story; every piece carries the spirit of the hands that made it.

Midtown Makers indulge your senses with wax melts infused with fragrance and warmth, a child’s fleece jacket stitched with care, an illustrated book alive with colour, frames with quotes influencing your thoughts. A shopfront window bursting with colours on canvas featuring themes of our lands, history and legacy. Mounted Prints and cards from artists that carry words and images meant to linger in the heart and memory.

Beyond this showcase lies an extraordinary community of over sixty artists and makers. Together they offer a cornucopia of treasures: goat’s milk soaps, tangy jams and chutneys, crocheted, embroidered and knitted keepsakes, hand-felted gifts, candles, and memory bears that capture life’s most cherished moments. Painted and printed cushions, upcycled cameras reborn as lamps, delicate wire-wrapped jewellery

From Celtic-inspired slate to Irish-themed ceramics, from handworked glass to carved wood, Midtown Makers is not just a shop — it is a gallery, a meeting place, a celebration of heritage and imagination. Artworks shimmer with acrylics, oils, and watercolours; photographs frame both the majesty of our coastline and the familiar landscapes that once became backdrops for Game of Thrones®. Even the smallest handmade cards capture the beauty of Northern Ireland in miniature.

This is a place where creativity is not simply sold, but shared. Customers can order bespoke pieces, shaped to their wishes, and collect them when the story of their gift is complete. Workshops and events fill the calendar, giving makers and dreamers alike the chance to learn, create, and connect.

Midtown Makers is more than a shop. It is Ballymena’s beating heart of creativity — a place where the everyday becomes extraordinary, and where every gift tells a story worth keeping.

A range of craft workshops and events regularly take place, check website for latest.

Visitor Information Hub located in the shop, offering leaflets and information on the local Ballymena area, Mid and East Antrim and the wider Northern Ireland attractions.
