About

Lead The Way Tour is an emotive and unique Guided Walking Tour experience.

Step back in time and learn how the County Antrim town of Carrickfergus played a hugely significant role in the Second World War.

Using a wide range of contemporary photographs, artefacts and stories, your tour which stops at key locations, brings to life the late 1930s and early 1940s, when events many miles away impacted on the lives of local people, who worked or were stationed here during WW2.

Your guide Adrian will take you back to that time, regaling you with tales of what life during wartime was like in Carrickfergus: air raid sirens, gas masks, food rationing. Many evacuees came here from Belfast when that city was being bombed by the Luftwaffe. Civilians joined civil defence organisations such as the Ulster Home Guard, Air Raid Precautions Services and Women's Voluntary Services.

Learn how the war revolutionised the industrial life of the town. Factories in the town turned their attention to making essential products required on the front line. Tanks were assembled and a linen factory was adapted to make parachutes.

This is an interesting and informative tour, with important lessons for a modern audience.
